Johnny Manziel to “Fall More Than People Think” in the Draft? Interesting…

So recent NFL GM Mark Dominik predicts that Johnny Manziel will fall more than people think in the draft. That begs the question: What are the most interesting landing spots for Johnny Football™?

1. New England

Without a doubt, the most interesting landing spot for Manziel would be in New England, which would cause Roger Goodell and ESPN producers to pull their hair out and cry into their pillows at night while they waited 2-3 years for Johnny to get his chance under center. If the kid manages to slide that far, it’s not beyond comprehension for Belichick to pull the trigger and set up Brady’s successor. It’s no secret that #12 has lost his touch on the deep ball (where he has become so risk averse that he overthrows pretty much every deep pass to guarantee a 0% chance of throwing an interception, which is admirable to a point, but it’s hit a tipping point that needs recalibrating to mix a little more acceptable risk back into the equation…but I digress), so it’s become entirely believable to envision a Patriots team in the near future taking the field without Tom Brady leading the way. In the unlikely event that Johnny Manziel ends up on the squad, that day may come sooner than planned. Belichick is borderline sociopathic when it comes to player personnel, completely numb to any emotional ties that might influence almost any other human being on the planet. To be clear, this scenario if far from probable, but it’s closer to possible than many might think.

2. Denver

Oh, wait, they already have Brock Osweiler? Big deal. It ain’t like Osweiler has proven anything, and he wasn’t exactly a real firecracker of a prospect coming out of college. He has upside for sure, but it’s not like Peyton’s backups traditionally get tons of reps and development in practice (as evidenced by his inept replacements in Indy). So if Manziel topples all the way to Denver at 31, it’d be a fascinating pick for Elway to make as a look to the future.

3. San Diego

This one’s not nearly as sexy as the first two, but coming off such a resurgent season for Philip Rivers, it might feel like somewhat of a slap in the face to him if the Chargers grabbed a slipping Manziel. However, it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad long-term move, and with a good training camp battle or two, Qualcomm Stadium could turn into The House That Johnny Built™ within a year or two.
